Simon Pitt and two friends established Touchstone in 1989, moving into the newly built No 1 Raleigh St in downtown Harare. Over the next 30 years, Touchstone became a leading provider of professional payroll services and products to the Zimbabwean market, participating in the Payroll Authors’ Group, meeting with important payroll stakeholders, such as ZIMRA, NSSA, Bankers’ Association, and Paynet to agree on procedures for implementing statutory requirements and discussing anomalies in legislation. During the lockdowns of Covid, senior staff began to work from their homes and Touchstone took the opportunity to move to the pleasant, leafy suburb of Belgravia, setting up The Base at 19 Phillips Ave/East Road with our Call-Centre and Walk-in customer support services.

Some senior staff has continued to work from their home offices. With solar power, reliable wifi connections, and online help and communications software we have adapted to and joined the world of TeamViewer, AnyDesk, Zoom, and Teams.

Touchstone offers PayDay Payroll to use under license in-house, but also provides a growing number of organizations around the county with outsourced payroll services.

We have Matabeleland covered with our second Base in Bulawayo, and working with our Network Partners, we also have our bases covered in Manicaland and the Midlands.

Our well-respected flagship payroll software, PayDay has developed from its simple DOS-based Payplus origins into an awesome Windows based system that has an engine of complex and powerful functions, whilst maintaining its original intuitive and user-friendly appeal.

Apart from the wonderfully accurate calculations of PAYE and other statutory calculations, it now incorporates the built-in handling of the dual-currency scenario with its allocation of statutory payments by ratio into USD and ZWL components. Emailing of payslips and other features not dreamed of 30 years ago are now standard offerings. It has handled the rough times handed out by the harsh economic climate changes and soothed over the complex payroll needs of African businesses.
